Is Technology Really Making Life Easier
I grew up inside the 1960's and 70's when there were no computer systems, PDA's or cell phones. There were no microwaves, no DVD's, no MP3 players and there were only about 7 beautiful stations on television. We did not stay residence and play video games all day prompted by there were no video games to talk of to come back back then. Instead we played outside, talked to our friends on the phone and listened to music.
I became telling this to my two sons the other day and they sat there stunned as they located out this concept hard to wrap their brain around. I suspect that I did the same as a infant when my own oldsters told me about their early life and what the world became like.
Today we are told that technology is here to make our lives simpler. The microwave helps us cook foodstuff faster. The internet helps us get knowledge faster and allows us to stay connected with friends, family and business associates. We have extra television stations to give us extra picks, we have cell phones so that we can stay in touch with one another and we have laptop pc systems so that we can get right to use the internet anywhere inside the world.
Ok… let's glance at that last paragraph again.
From where I'm sitting, it looks like all our sophisticated contemporary technology has executed the opposite… it has made our lives crazier! It has given us less time instead of extra.
If you're in your twenties and thirties, be aware of your discern's early life and what life became love to come back back then. If you're in your forties or older (like me… sigh) then be aware of your own early life. What came about to all people when office hours came to an end? What came about when people left paintings and went residence?
What did they do?
They had time to think and reflect and do something very few of us do in today's world… they comfortable!
When I became becoming up, we did not have cell phones and laptop pc systems so we comfortable, went out to dinner, took walks, watched television, listened to music and read a ebook. We grew to turn out to be our minds off for a even as and allowed it to reboot itself.
Modern technology has taken this away from us. Instead of resting when we get residence from paintings, we paintings on our laptops and persistently check our PDA's. We take our cell phones and answer them wherever we are… in restaurants, airplanes, movie theaters, soccer fields, in our car… in every single place!
When exactly will we rest and allow our minds to turn off for a segment even as?
Modern technology has made things harder. It has unleashed a monster known as stress this is often making our world sick and drained. It distracts us. It owns us!
Have you seen the Terminator movies? The one where machines rule the earth? Guess what? Machines rule our earth. Not in as nasty a style as the movie, but they rule the earth nevertheless. Technology legislation.
Stress is an uncongenial thing that causes some even nastier illnesses, and there aren't any antibiotics you may take for it. Stress kills and there is only one cure for it.
You must rest.
Recently, Ron and I went to Disneyworld in Florida with our boys. We took our cell phones and the laptop prompted by we needed to review our email and voice mail even as we were there. For some strange reason although, the cell phones largely stayed inside the room prompted by we kept forgetting to bring them, and we never even grew to turn out to be on the laptop. Before we knew it, we went almost an full week without checking any of our messages. I checked them about halfway through the week and returned only a few calls, but for the principle part every thing stayed off.
Did the world end? Did we lose our endeavor? Did prospects walk away?
We came residence with our minds refreshed and returned the calls, answered the email and life rolled on. We were bored with course (have you ever executed 4 theme parks in 4 days?) but nothing came about. Life as we understand it did not end!!! Instead we were able to put concentration on the job at hand prompted by we were refreshed and comfortable.
Technology accelerates our ability to do things. We can research faster, cook faster, and be in contact with other folks faster. However, it also causes us to feel the necessity that we needs to be in contact all the time! We feel we should check our email at 10:00 p.m. at evening, we should answer that telephone throughout dinner, and we should check our PDA every hour no matter where we are.
When do you rest and turn your mind off?
I do not forget that everybody wants to move forward. I totally get that. However, with a view to move forward, you should now and again take only a few steps to come back back to be able to get a stronger glance at where you're watching to go.
So what can we do?
We can turn off the computer after dinner and not turn it to come back back on until the morning. We can turn our cellphone off once in a even as and let the voice mail answer it. We can take a walk. We can go on vacation without the laptop. We can even go on vacation and only check our voice mail a couple of times! The world won't cease! People might think you have been abducted but so what? You'll get to come back back in touch with them.
If you don't rest and let your body and brain reboot itself, then your body will break down. In the end, technology will deprive you of the true quality of life prompted by it'll be sick and you won't be able to do what you're watching to do.
So here's my challenge…
I challenge each one of you reading this article to lose your cellphone for a day or two and see what happens. I challenge you to turn off your computer at around 6 p.m. at evening and not turn it to come back back on below any instances until the next morning for one week. Then watch what happens!
Everyone tells you that you must devour right and get a style of exercise. Absolutely true! However, there is a nil.33 even extra priceless key to life… you must rest!
So turn your mind off for a even as. Listen to some music. Read a ebook. Talk to your kids. Go watching. Go to a comedy show and laugh.
Stop ignoring what your body is telling you! I know that it has been urging you to slow down and take a breath. Listen to it. It knows what it's doing.
Now let's examine… I'm writing an article about the evils of technology on my computer, my phone is ringing next to me and an email just arrived.
Hmmm… guess it may just very smartly be time to take a break!
